5 Tips to Clean Your Shower Glass 🚿

Today we are going to answer a question that plagues many of our Fellow Clean Freaks with hard water…How to clean glass shower doors?

Happy Tuesday our Clean Freak Family! We hope everyone’s week is off to a great start!

Today we are going to answer a question that plagues many of our Fellow Clean Freaks with hard water…How to clean glass shower doors? Dad Joke Alert: If H20 is water then what is H204? Drinking, swimming and Showering! LOL… So if your shower doors are starting to look permanently ‘fogged’ from hard water and soap scum we are here to help!

Today we are going to discuss 5 ways to keep your shower glass sparkling clean and clear!

1. Try DYI

If your shower glass is need of a general good, thorough cleaning you definitely should be able to use this simple DYI mixture:

  • 1 Cup Vinegar

  • 1 Cup Water

  • 1 Tsp Dawn Dish Soap

Spray the mixture on the glass surface and let it set for about 5-10 minutes. Next, gently scrub with a non scratch scrub brush (Here is the one we like to use) Give it a good rinse with water and then dry with a microfiber towel.

2. When We Need Some Extra Oomph!

If your shower is starting to get a pretty heavy build up of hard water deposits and soap scum you can try this option:

In this scenario we like to use Barkeepers Friend More Spray. This is a non-bleach product that is a gentle spray designed to remove water spots. Scrub with a non scratch scrub brush. Repeat if necessary. Finally rinse with water and dry with a microfiber towel.

3. Defcon 3

If your shower glass is starting to look like a permanently frosted petri dish we recommend this deep clean option:

In this scenario we prefer to use the Barkeepers Friend More Spray. After spraying it on the surface, gently scrub the area with #0000 grade Steel Wool… Wait What? Don’t these guys always say to only use a NON Scratch scrub pad? You’re right, you’re right! But this is really more of a last resort , restorative method after you have exhausted the other options. The secret is to only use the steel wool on a wet surface. As always, we recommend that you test a small inconspicuous area to make certain that it is safe to use on your glass surface.

Once you have confirmed that the area is safe and clean, start to clean a little larger area. Typically, most of the severe hard water and soap scum build up is generally focused in the ‘splash zone.’ So you may only have to clean the lower area of the glass with this method depending on your shower.

Finally, rinse the areas cleaned with water and then dry with a microfiber towel

4. Squeegee, Luigi, Squeegee!

This cleaning tip is all about maintenance after your shower glass is clean.

When you finish showering, simply squeegee the shower glass from top to bottom. This will minimize the water drying on the glass and slow down the build up of grime and mineral deposits. Is it a little extra work in the morning? Yes. But hey we’re Clean Freaks - We got this!

5. Next Level Glass Game!

Finally if you want to take your shower glass game to the next level consider using RainX after you clean your shower glass. Follow the label as directed. This will create a protective layer that slows down the mineral deposits and soap scum from accumulating on the glass.

Isn’t this product for windshields? Yes, so now you can ‘drive’ people crazy with how clean your shower glass stays!
