5 Tips to Deep Clean Your Oven 🍰🥩

We’ve got a HOT topic this week- 5 Tips to Deep Clean Your Oven

You made it! Welcome Back! We hope you enjoyed your long weekend! Hopefully you had a chance to relax a little too! You got through Black Friday, Cyber Monday and now here we are! It's Clean Freak Tuesday! As Certified Clean Freaks we know that many of you have already cleaned up after your guests. Now the FUN begins!

We’ve got a HOT topic this week- 5 Tips to Deep Clean Your Oven

Many of you put your oven through its paces over the weekend. No doubt you did some initial clean up but now we are going to look under the hood… Open the oven door that is and take a peek inside.  So let’s get cooking…

Here are 5 Pro Tips to Deep Clean Your Oven

1. Start with the Stove Top (Glass Top)

We LOVE to cook! And our stove top shows it when we are done! Cleaning a glass stove top can be a challenge when the splashes and spills land on the hot stove top.

Here are our go to products to keep our glass stove top sparkling like a mirror…

  • Bar Keepers Friend Cooktop Cleaner

  • A Non Scratch Scrub Pad (We like to use a Scrub Mommy)

  • A Damp and Dry Microfiber Towel

Instructions:

Apply the Bar Keepers Friend Cooktop Cleaner to the cook top. Gently scrub it with a non-scratch scrub pad. Let it set for a bit to break down and loosen the charred on grime. Then wipe with a damp microfiber towel. Repeat if needed. At the end take a dry microfiber towel to buff out any streaks.

2. Give Your Oven Top a Lift?

You can’t change the oil but you may be able to clean the grease under the cooktop! Some oven cooktops with heating coils and trays let you lift the stove top (Like a car hood) This feature allows you to clean the space underneath where food and grease splashes accumulate out of sight. One quick note: Glass stove tops generally do not have this feature.

Does your oven have this feature? This video shows you how to find if you do…

3. Cleaning the Oven Glass Door

Are you afraid to turn on your oven light? The oven door is a window into a Clean Freaks Kitchen. Over time food and grease splash and bake on the glass. Here is a Pro Tip that can save you hours of scrubbing…

Pro Tip: Use a razor blade to scrape off baked on grime.

Warning: Use the razor at an angle, go very slowly, and be careful not to cut yourself or scratch the surface. Test a small area to make sure you are not damaging the glass or coating.

4. Remove the Oven Door (Save your Back!)

Trying to contort your body to reach over the oven door from the side to reach the back of the oven can be difficult. (Even if you are a Clean Freak Ninja!)

Did you know that certain brands of ovens allow you to remove the oven door completely?!? This makes cleaning so much easier!

Caution: Not all ovens have this feature. If your oven has a removable oven door we recommend taking a picture of the latch before you remove it. (That way you can zoom in on it when it comes time to put the door back) We also recommend having a helper. Sometimes putting the door back on is much more difficult than removing it because it has to be aligned properly.

5. Clean the Oven Racks

After Grandma’s Meatloaf , 12 Dozen Cookies, 12 Different Pies with various colors of filling and then add a couple midnight frozen pizzas our oven racks can start to look like they have stalactites!

Fun Fact: Stalactites grow down from the top, while stalagmites grow up from the cave floor! Someone is definitely going to ask this! LOL

Where to clean them?

Since most sinks are too small we recommend: The Bathtub. Using a sanitizing product wipe down and rinse out the tub before you begin.

How to clean them?

Fill the tub about half way with warm water and add 1 cup baking soda and half a cup of dish soap. Carefully submerge and soak the oven racks overnight (If possible) Use a non-scratch pad to remove any remaining gunk and ‘stalactites.’ Afterwards, wipe with a dry microfiber towel.

Did You Know? A fellow Clean Freak suggested trying to use a dishwasher pod for our oven racks. Our first few tests have worked great! We want to give this a few more tries but this might be our new go to oven rack cleaning process!
