Oops! Wine Spill Now What? 🍷

Wine spill on carpet

In the immortal words of Brittany Spears, “Oops! I did it again!” You finally get a chance to sit down and relax and enjoy a glass of wine. Ahhhhh. Then what? You reach for your cell phone and accidentally tip over your glass of wine!

Step by Step Guide to Cleaning Wine from Carpet

Fresh Spot

  1. Quickly but safely get a clean white towel or a paper towel to absorb and blot as much excess wine as possible. ( Tip 1 - In a panic sometimes we want to start scrubbing the area frantically- This can fray the tops of the carpet fibers - Gently but firmly blot/tamp the spot)

  2. Apply a small amount of Club Soda to the spill area and gently but firmly blot the spot

  3. Repeat step 2 until the spot is gone

Dried Spot

  1. Mix a tablespoon of white vinegar and a tablespoon of dish soap with a glass of warm water and apply to the wine spill area.

  2. Use a white towel to gently but firmly blot the area. (Tip 2 - ONLY use a white towel - Some towels can have pigment that can bleed into the spill area)

  3. Repeat steps 2 until the spot is gone

Stubborn Spot

  1. Mix one tablespoon of dish soap and 3 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide and apply to the wine spill area.

  2. When using hydrogen peroxide always test an inconspicuous area to ensure no damage will be done to the carpet fibers.

  3. Allow the mixture to sit or dwell on the stain for about half an hour.

  4. Afterward, pour a glass of warm water over the area.

  5. Use a white towel to gently but firmly blot the area. (Tip 2 - ONLY use a white towel - Some towels can have pigment that can bleed into the spill area)

  6. Repeat steps 3 through 5 until the spot is gone

Pro Tip: While not required to clean up the spot, The Hoover CleanSlate can make quick work of this clean-up! (Affiliate Link)

Did you know? Most organic high-end wines do not have additional colorants. However, some bargain brands (our personal favorite) of wine can have additives and colorants that can permanently discolor carpet and fabrics)

Now it is time for your second glass of wine which technically is your first. This time though, the phone is on silent!
