As Clean Freaks, we know that Spring Cleaning is like hitting the reset button! And with each task you complete, you'll feel a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that will carry over into all areas of your life!

Happy Spring Cleaning! Hello our Clean Freak Family!

As Clean Freaks, we know that Spring Cleaning is like hitting the reset button!

It’s not only about tidying up your home, it's about reclaiming your space and your life.

It's also a chance to let go of what's been holding you back and make room for the things that truly matter. And with each task you complete, you'll feel a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that will carry over into all areas of your life. So don't procrastinate, don't hesitate!

The world is waiting for you to shine, so let's get cleaning!

So let the Spring Cleaning fun continue!

Day 16 Cleaning the Mattress

Time 30 minutes

To start, give the mattress a thorough vacuuming.

We really like to use hydrogen peroxide as a mattress cleaner

(Pro Tip: Always check the cleaning instructions for your mattress before proceeding with any cleaning or cleaning products)

Mist the mattress in sections and then work it in with a damp towel.

Hydrogen peroxide does a great job with ‘mystery yellow stains’ and blood spots.

Once we have pretreated the surface of the mattress we like to use our Hoover Clean Slate (Spotter Machine) with only clean water inside to rinse the cleaned areas and then extract the water. (Working in manageable sections)

If you don’t have a little Spotter Machine no worries! You can also rinse by misting with clean water and then wiping the area with a clean microfiber towel.

This usually takes about 30 minutes to clean but around 2-4 for drying.

Pro Tip: Accelerate drying by turning on a ceiling fan or other small fans if available!

Day 17 Washing Pillows

Time (About the time it takes to do a load of laundry)

While some pillows can be washed in the washing machine, others with memory foam generally only the covers can be washed.

(Pro Tip: Always check the pillow tags if in tact or manufacturer website before proceeding with any cleaning)

When it comes to washable pillows we like to pretreat them with hydrogen peroxide, especially on those inevitable ‘mystery’ spots.

Once everything has been pretreated we like to put the washable pillows in the washing machine.

Wash on the bulky item setting with cool water and an extra rinse.

Pro Tip: Try to keep the load as evenly dispersed as possible.

To prevent the pillows from getting lumpy we like to give them a quick fluff right as they come out of the washing machine.

For drying we like to use dryer balls. (As a replacement for dryer balls you can use tennis balls)

We find it best to dry these on little to no heat setting if possible.

Day 18 High Dusting and Ceiling Fans

Time 30 - 40 minutes

For high dusting we like to use our ‘bendy’ microfiber duster along with an extension pole.

Pro Tip: Extension poles make it possible to do high dusting from the ground without needing to use a ladder.

Watch for cobwebs and dust in the upper hard to reach corners of your home.

Next we like to clean the ceiling fans in the bedroom.

If safely reachable, we like to use our pillow case hack for cleaning ceiling fan blades.

Place an old pillow case around each ceiling fan blade and pull back leaving the dust and dirt inside the old pillow case. This prevents dirt and dust from falling all over the place.

See Brandon on Good Morning America sharing this cleaning hack!

Dust the rest of the fan with a small duster.

For the glass light fixtures if detachable we like to wash them with dish soap and water.

Finally, buff them dry with a microfiber towel and carefully put them back in place.

Day 19 Detail Dust the House

Time (Depends on the size of your home)

We like to use a Swiffer Duster, a Damp Duster from Scrub Daddy and a few damp and dry microfiber towels.

Pro Tip: When it comes to Dusting, a good rule is to start working from top to bottom. This way you don’t move dust back into or over areas that you have already cleaned. Also, if you have an area with a lot of trinkets or other items sometimes it is best to work in sections.

This project can be a little more time consuming because of the extra detail.

To save time, work your way around the room progressing in the same direction until the room is completed.

Also, if you end up moving a lot of items, we like to take a picture of the area before we clean so we know exactly where we need to put things back in place!

Day 20 Washing Walls

Time (Depends on the size of your home)

To Start:

Mix up a teaspoon of dish soap and warm water in a spray bottle.

If available, we like to use a microfiber flat mop with a soft microfiber flat mop head.

Place the microfiber flat mop head in a bucket of warm water to get it damp for rinsing.

Gently mist the wall with the dish soap and water mixture.

(Pro Tip: Don’t spray directly at the wall which can cause streaking, spray at an angle and mist)

Next, come through with the damp microfiber flat mop and clean straight up and down as you go. (Kind of like you are painting, to rinse)

Continue to rinse the flat mop head to keep it clean for rinsing.

As the water in the bucket starts to look dirty, replace it with clean warm water as needed.

Day 21 Cleaning Doors, Trim and Baseboards

Time (Depends on the number of doors and amount of trim and baseboards)

Begin by vacuuming and/or dusting the doors, trim and baseboards with a Swiffer Duster.

(We prefer to use a duster with an extendable handle to make it easier on your back!)

To clean the baseboard we have used several techniques of the years.

  1. Use a damp microfiber towel wrapped around a soft bristle broom and secured with a rubber band. (See video below for example)

  2. Use a microfiber flat mop with a damp microfiber towel

  3. Finally, do them the old fashioned way, by hand with a damp microfiber towel

For scuff marks we like to use a melamine sponge. But do not scrub too aggressively because you may begin to remove the paint!

For the doors we like to use our 3 Towel System:

Start by mixing a Teaspoon of Dish Soap in a bucket of warm water.

Next use the 3 Towel System:

The first microfiber towel is dipped in the cleaning solution to clean

The second is a damp water only microfiber towel to rinse

The third is a dry microfiber towel to dry and buff

Day 22 Cleaning Upholstery

Time (Depends on the amount of furniture being cleaned)

Before you get started it is always best to check the tag for the Clean Code!

The process we are discussing will work for furniture that can be cleaned with water, or has the cleaning code “W”.

To see what to do if your piece of furniture has a different Cleaning Code?

See the video HERE

Now that you have confirmed that your piece of furniture can be cleaned with “W” Water you are ready to start.

To begin, thoroughly vacuum the piece of furniture.

(We want to remove as much dry dust and dirt as possible.)

For a cleaning solution we like the DYI mix of:

1 Cup Rubbing Alcohol 1 Cup Water 1 Teaspoon of Dish Soap

Mix in a spray bottle and gently mist the piece to pretreat.

Once you have completed pretreating the piece of furniture, next we like to flush and extract one of 2 ways.

  1. We like to use our Hoover Clean Slate Spotter Machine with water only in the tank. This does a great job not only of removing the dirt and soil, but also prevents leaving residue behind.

  2. If you don’t have a spotter machine, that is Okay! You can also use a damp microfiber towel wrapped around a pot lid. Remember to keep rinsing the towel and keep it clean for the best extraction results.

Once you are done cleaning, use a fan to get the piece of furniture dry as quickly as possible.
