4 Tips for Your Emergency Spills 🚨

Expect the Unexpected. With food, family and friends all gathered together, inevitably we all have that ‘emergency spill.

Welcome our Clean Freak Family! Many of you have a very busy week ahead. Some of you are traveling or getting ready to travel on or in planes, trains and/or automobiles. Others are feverishly preparing to host family and friends at your home. Next week we will talk about deep cleaning after your guests have departed. This week we decided to keep the Clean Freak Weekly short and sweet! (technically short and savory!) LOL

Now we hope everything goes as planned, however, sometimes we need to ‘Expect the Unexpected.’ With food, family and friends all gathered together, inevitably we all have that ‘emergency spill.’We are going elaborate on more spill types in the future but today let’s cover some quick clean up tips so you can get back to spending time together!

1. Be Prepared

Keep some towels and cleaning products set aside and easy to access so you can grab them quickly for sudden spills.

2. Have Extra Garbage Bags On Hand

You know that you will definitely have some extra garbage and need a place to put debris from spill clean up so plan to have extra bags (Maybe a few extra strength bags) We like to leave some extra bags in the base of the garbage container so you can make a quick switch. Also, we recommend trying to make it easy to recycle by having multiple disposal containers clearly labeled for your guests.

3. Gravy and Salad Dressing

Have you ever dropped the gravy tureen? (Big word for little serving container) Oops! Cleaning gravy and salad dressing can be a real challenge- With good gravy think ‘pan drippings’ and with salad dressing think ‘oil.’ The grease and oil can be difficult to ‘break down’ and even if the area appears clean initially, it can quickly re-soil. So here is our DYI mix to clean up gravy and salad dressing…

Mix:

1 Cup of Water

1/2 Teaspoon of Dish Soap

2 Tablespoons of Rubbing Alcohol

Put in a Spray Bottle

Mist the spot and gently dab with a white towel. Rinse with warm water. Repeat if needed.

4. The Uncleanable Spill

Unfortunately, some spills are not a quick fix. If you find yourself with a difficult to clean spot you may need to call in a professional cleaner. If possible, remove as much as the debris as you can. The trick is to keep the area damp until the professional arrives. If the spot dries it is more likely to set. The challenge is that you may not get a professional on site until Monday so try this-

Take a clean white towel ( Do NOT use a colored towel to avoid color transfer) Wet the white towel and then wring it out until it is damp (Not saturated with water) Then gently place the damp towel over the area. Check periodically to make sure it is not drying and also make sure that it is not too wet) By keeping the area damp, you may give the professional cleaner the time he or she needs to remove the spot and prevent permanent damage.
