Summer is finally HERE Clean Freak Fam! Time to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors! But after a few road trips does your car look like it just survived a cross-country road trip through a bug convention?

The good news? You do not need a fancy detail shop, a second mortgage, or a garage full of specialized tools to fix it! You just need a little time, a hose, and the five moves I am about to share with you. Put on your favorite playlist, and let's get ready to cruise into summer! 🧽

If there is one rule that separates the rookies from the pros, it is this: wheels first. Always. Your wheels are basically a magnet for brake dust and road grime. Hose them down generously to knock off the surface layer of dirt, then hit them with a quality wheel and tire cleaner like Adam's Polishes Wheel and Tire Cleaner. Spray every wheel down well and watch the grime literally melt before your eyes. Strangely satisfying. Highly recommended.

For the rims, use a soft bristle brush so you do not scratch the finish. For tires, switch to a stiff bristle brush because those bad boys can take some elbow grease. A long wheel brush helps you reach the inner barrel and lug nut nooks, but if you do not have one, a microfiber towel works in a pinch.

Before you touch a single drop of soap, walk around the car with the hose and give it a full pre-rinse. Think of it like the opening act at an automatic car wash. The goal is to knock off that first layer of surface dirt so when your wash mitt comes through later, you are not dragging grit across your paint like sandpaper.

Pay attention to the nooks and crannies too. Window cowls, side mirrors, and tucked-in spots love collecting leaves, pine needles. Clear them out now so you are not playing hide and seek with debris later.

This is the move that separates a real wash from a glorified dirt smear. Grab two buckets. One gets your cleaner, the other gets fresh clean water. For the soap, Turtle Wax Max Power is a fan favorite. About six ounces in the bucket gets the job done, and you can dial up the strength depending on how trashed your car is. ⭐️Bonus: it is around seven bucks and gets you up to 33 washes at moderate strength. Wallet says thank you.

Soak your wash mitt in the soap bucket (do not wring it out, we want it dripping with suds) and start at the top of the car on the driver's side. Work in sections from top to bottom in straight back-and-forth strokes. Then rinse that section before the soap dries. Before reloading the mitt with soap, rinse it in the fresh water bucket first. That keeps your soap bucket cleaner longer and keeps grit off your paint. Add a Bucket Guard to trap larger debris and prevent scratches!

If you want to speed things up and feel like a real pro, grab a foam cannon. It coats the entire car in a thick blanket of soap that has time to break down dirt while you scrub. Do you absolutely need one? Nope. But it is fast, satisfying, and your neighbors might start pulling in your driveway and offer to pay you to wash their car too!

The final rinse is where a lot of folks can get mixed results. Leave any soap behind and you get those chalky dried circles that mock you in the sunlight. Rinse the car once, then rinse it again. Pay special attention to door handles, gas caps, side mirror seams, and trim edges. Soap loves to hide in those spots and embarrass you later.

Once the rinse is done, dry that car FAST. Water spots love to form the second you turn your back. Two tools make this easy:
