How to Dust Your Home?

Dust, the sworn enemy of clean freaks everywhere! Dusting your home can be a real challenge, but it’s essential for keeping your home clean and healthy.

Welcome back our Clean Freak Family! Happy Cleaning Tuesday!

We are one day closer to Spring! Yay!

Dust, ah yes, the sworn enemy of clean freaks everywhere. It's the tiny particles that can turn a perfectly tidy room into a dust bunny playground in a matter of minutes. You could swear you just dusted yesterday, but quickly it looks like a vacuum bag exploded in your house. And don't even get us started on trying to catch a single dust mote in a sunbeam! LOL

Word of the Day… Dust Mote… Definition: a speck of dust

Have you ever pondered this Clean Freak conundrum:

What is Dust?

Dust is a combination of many tiny particles including dead skin cells, clothing and fabric fibers, hair, bacteria, decomposing insects, soil particles, pollen, pet dander and more! Ewww!

Dusting your home can be a real challenge, but it’s essential for keeping your home clean and healthy. Dust can cause allergies, asthma, and other respiratory problems if left to accumulate. Fortunately, there are several ways to effectively dust your home.

How to Dust Your Home?

1. Feather Duster

A feather duster is a classic dusting tool that can quickly and easily remove dust from surfaces. The feathers trap dust particles and prevent them from spreading around. Over the years we have used feather dusters. The challenge is that sometimes with rigorous dusting the dust can quickly become aerosolized and spread instead of being removed.

2. Microfiber Towels & Dusters

Microfiber cloths are soft and gentle on surfaces, making them ideal for dusting delicate items. They are also reusable and can be washed and reused many times. A microfiber fluffy duster and a lightly damp microfiber towel are our favs for surface dusting!

3. Swiffer Dusters

For heavy-duty dusting we recommend using Swiffer Dusters. Some sources claim that Swiffer Dusters can hold 3 times more dust than an ordinary feather duster. We like that you can see when they are filling with dust and quickly replace it with a new one. Did you know Swiffer Dusters can be reusable?

Pro Tip:

Before starting to dust, close windows and turn off fans to prevent dust from spreading while you clean. When dusting, start from the top and work your way down. This way dust doesn’t fall onto areas you have already cleaned. Wait to vacuum until you have finished dusting.

How often should you dust your home?

We recommend a light dusting once a week and a thorough dusting once a month

2 Ways to Minimize Dust in Your Home

1. Vacuum frequently!

Carpets are the largest air filter in your home. Every time you vacuum you are minimizing dust!

2. Change your furnace filter!

It is recommended to change your furnace filter every 90 days. In the winter you may want to consider changing the filter every month.

There you have it!

Dusting your home is an important task that can help keep your home clean and healthy. By regular dusting, you can effectively remove dust from your home and enjoy a cleaner, healthier, and happier home!
