Find & Eliminate Your Mystery Odors! 🔎
It is a badge of honor as Clean Freaks to have a clean and fresh smelling home. But every now and again we all have to track down that infamous ‘Mystery Odor.’

Happy Tuesday our Clean Freak Family! We are sure you will all agree that it is a badge of honor as Clean Freaks to have a clean and fresh smelling home. But every now and again we all have to track down that infamous ‘Mystery Odor!'

In the immortal words of Sherlock Holmes, “The mystery is afoot… or is it a foot?!?” LOL While feet and shoes may literally be the problem, in reality tracking down a mystery odor can be a real challenge.
Where Do You Start Your Investigation?
The first step in finding the source of the odor is to take a careful look around your home and see if you can spot any obvious sources, such as spoiled food or a pet accident. If you can't find the source right away, try to identify the general area where the odor is strongest and focus your search there. Those of us with strong olfactory ability aka smelling super powers may quickly find ourselves crawling on the floor like bloodhounds. Additionally, the smell itself may help determine the exact location. Is the smell musty? Does it smell like spoiled food? Does it smell like pet odor?
Finding the source will many times dictate the needed process to clean and eradicate the odor. But what if a mystery odor still remains?
Here are a Few Steps to Help Make the Mystery Stink Extinct!
1. A Breath of Fresh Air
One of the easiest ways to keep your home smelling fresh is to regularly open windows and doors to allow fresh air to circulate. This can help to eliminate musty smells and prevent the build-up of stale air. It can also be helpful to open windows and doors to let fresh air in, which can help dissipate the odor and make it easier to pinpoint its source
2. Keep the Fridge Fresh
Your Refrigerator can be an odor Emanator! A simple timeless hack is to keep a box of baking soda in your refrigerator and freezer. Baking soda will help to absorb any unpleasant odors, keeping your fridge and freezer smelling fresh.
3. Go Au Naturel!
While this may not eliminate the odor, it will definitely help to make things more tolerable. An effective hack is to use natural scents to freshen up your home. For example, you can boil some citrus peels on the stove to release a fresh and inviting scent, or use essential oils in a diffuser to fill your home with a pleasant aroma.
4. Double Check the Bathroom
Let’s face it, the bathroom can be a source of persistent and unpleasant odor. In the bathroom, try using a mixture of vinegar and water to clean and sanitize surfaces. This natural solution is effective at reducing germs and bacteria, and will also help to minimize any musty smells.
5. Organize and Sanitize!
Regularly cleaning and decluttering your home will help to keep it smelling fresh. This will help to prevent the build-up of dust, dirt and grime, and will also make it easier to spot any areas that may be causing unpleasant odors.
6. Call in Sherlock Holmes?
If you are still unable to find the source of a strong mystery odor, it may be necessary to call in a professional to help diagnose the problem. The problem may come from a place that is hard to find. Issues in the subflooring, leaky pipes and even pesky critters. Ewww!
Pro Tip: Chlorine dioxide (ClO2) is a product that was only available to Professional Cleaners. Recently it has become widely available to Consumers. It is very potent at removing persistent odors.
Caution: Follow the instructions exactly as directed!
Natural Option: Moso Natural Air Purifying Bag This Bamboo Charcoal Natural Deodorizing product is easy to use. Just place the bag in the room with the odor problem and the charcoal effectively traps and neutralizes the odor!
There you have it! Maintaining a clean and fresh-smelling home doesn't have to be a daunting task. By using some simple hacks, you can easily keep your home smelling fresh and inviting.
