Hey Clean Freaks!
We are half way there, how are you holding up? Need a little rest from all the fun?
We want you to be refreshed and ready to keep going! So this week we are going to spring clean the best place to rest and reset. Itโs your bedroom!
Getting a good nightโs sleep gets harder the older you get. ๐ You go from โI can sleep anywhereโ to โthe minute I lay down my brain starts reminding me everything I forgot to do today?โ And suddenly your bedroom is not just a place to sleepโฆ itโs your peace zone, your recovery room, your โtry to sleepโ sanctuary.
So if your sleep has been feeling a little off lately, thereโs a good chance itโs not just youโฆ it might be your environment. Dust, odors, clutter, and buildup quietly chip away at that calm feeling we all want when we hit the pillow.
Thatโs exactly why this week of the spring cleaning spree matters so much. Weโre not just cleaning a bedroomโฆ weโre resetting your peace of mind.ย
Letโs Go ๐
๐๏ธ Vacuum & Reset Your MattressโฆFlip???
This is the big one. Your mattress collects dust, sweat, skin cells, and allergens every single night. Fun fact: we shed about a pound and a half of skin cells per year, and a good chunk of that ends up right here. So let's start here!
Strip the bed completely, then vacuum the mattress using an upholstery attachment, working top to bottom. Get the sides and seams! That's where debris loves to hide. This step is the one most people skip, and it's the most important. If you go straight to wet cleaning without vacuuming first, you're basically making mud.
For stains, spray a small amount of hydrogen peroxide, let it sit for about a minute, and wipe gently with a damp microfiber towel. For tougher stains or odors, a small spot extractor or an enzyme cleaner works wonders.
Enzyme cleaners actually break down what's causing the smell instead of just covering it up. After cleaning, focus on drying. Open windows, turn on a fan.
Pro Tip: Try to clean your mattress in the morning so it has all day to air out.ย Then rotate your mattress if your manufacturer recommends it.

๐กQuick Reminder
Some manufacturers do NOT recommend rotating the mattress.
๐ง Pro Tip: Skip the baking soda. I know it's all over the internet, but in my experience it makes a mess, is nearly impossible to fully remove, and can even damage your vacuum over time. Hydrogen peroxide is simpler and more effective.
Why it matters: A clean mattress improves air quality, reduces allergens, and makes your entire sleep setup feel fresh. Add a mattress protector, vacuum monthly, and rotate every few months if recommended by the manufacturer to stay ahead of buildup.
๐งบ Wash All Your Bedding
Sheets, blankets, comforters, mattress covers, yes ALL of it. These collect sweat, oils, and dust faster than most people realize. Wash sheets and protectors in warm to hot water with your normal detergent, and add about half a cup of white vinegar to knock out any funky odors. For blankets and comforters, switch to cold water to protect the fibers. Hot water can melt them and leave your cozy blankets feeling flat. Always check the care tag first, and dry everything completely before making the bed.
๐ง Pro Tip: Half a cup of white vinegar in the wash is one of the easiest odor-fighting tricks there is. Your bedding comes out smelling clean, not like a salad, I promise.
๐ด Give Your Pillows a Deep Reset
Pillows are one of the most overlooked items in the bedroom. Over time they fill up with sweat, body oils, and microscopic โcrittersโ that letโs just say if you โgoogle it'โฆ it could keep you up at night! Spring cleaning is the perfect time to reset them.
Always check the tag first. Not every pillow can go in the washer. If your tag only has symbols, snap a photo with your phone and look them up, it takes 10 seconds. For washable pillows, pre-treat yellow spots with hydrogen peroxide (spray lightly, let it sit 20โ30 minutes, then wash). Wash two pillows at a time to keep the machine balanced, and use a bulky or gentle cycle with mild detergent.

For memory foam pillows, never put them in the washer. Just wash the cover and spot clean the foam with a lightly damp towel and a tiny bit of dish soap. The key is not getting the foam too wet.
Before drying, check for any stains you missed, heat sets stains. Fluff your pillows, toss in dryer balls or tennis balls, and dry on low heat. It takes longer, but your pillows will thank you.
๐ง Pro Tip: Use pillow protectors (not just pillowcases), wash pillowcases weekly, and deep-clean your pillows every 3โ6 months. This keeps buildup from ever getting out of control.
๐ชถ In-Depth Dusting โ Top to Bottom
Nightstands, headboards, dressers, dรฉcor, window ledgesโฆ if you see dust, clean it. The golden rule: always dust from the top down so you're not dropping dust onto surfaces you already cleaned. Use a damp duster because it grabs dust instead of just pushing it around. If it gets dirty, rinse it and keep going.
๐ง Pro Tip: A damp duster dries out over time and gets stiff. Store it in a small plastic bag between uses to keep it soft and ready to go.
๐ก Light Fixtures & Ceiling Fans
Dust builds up on light fixtures and fans fast, and it becomes painfully obvious the second you flip the switch. If your fixtures have glass covers, remove them, rinse, and wash with dish soap and a soft sponge. Dry before reinstalling. For ceiling fans, a microfiber towel or damp duster does the trick. Always clean these before floors because the dust will fall.
๐งฑ Walls, Baseboards, Trim & Doors
This is the step that separates a surface clean from a room that feels fully reset. Walls, baseboards, trim, and doors collect dust, scuffs, and sticky buildup from everyday life. Start by dusting loose debris first. If you skip this and go straight to wet cleaning, you're just smearing dirt around.
For walls, mix a few drops of dish soap in warm water. Never spray cleaner directly on the wall. Instead, spray your towel or mop. This prevents streaking and over-wetting. A microfiber flat mop lets you clean walls like you'd mop a floor. Work in small sections and rinse often.
For baseboards: wrap a microfiber around a broom (saves your knees), use a flat mop, or go hands-and-knees for stubborn spots.
For doors and trim: try the Three-Towel System. One towel with cleaner, one with water to rinse, and one dry towel to buff. Using this method, start at the top and work down.
๐ง Pro Tip: Know your paint. Semi-gloss cleans easily, but flat paint is delicate. Use very little moisture and clean gently. And change your bucket water when it turns gray. If it looks dirty, you're spreading dirt, not removing it.
๐งน Floors โ The Grand Finale
Floors are always last because everything settles here. Start by vacuuming under the bed. ย This spot gets missed constantly, and if you have pets, you already know what's lurking under there. If you can't move the bed, use a vacuum attachment or duster to reach. Then vacuum the entire floor slowly and thoroughly. Take your time. This is the step where the room really starts to feel finished.
Why it matters: Cleaning floors last locks in everything you just did. Removing hidden dust (especially under the bed) improves your air quality and gives the room that freshly-reset feeling you can actually feel.
