Good news, Clean Freak Fam! 🙌

It’s Week 4 of the Spring Cleaning Spree, and we’re coming in strong. The kitchen is handled, the bathroom is no longer scary, and the bedroom is finally a place you want to sleep!

Now it’s time to reset the space where life actually happens. The Living Room!

Your Living Room is called a ‘LIVING’ Room for a reason!

This is where your family gathers. It’s movie night central, game day headquarters, nap zone, snack zone, and sometimes full blown Lego Land depending on the day. It’s where memories get made and… where messes get made right along with them. That’s what makes it worth cleaning. Not just to make it look good, but to reset the space so it feels good again.

Grab your microfiber towels, your duster and vacuum. We’re going step by step and bringing this room back to clean, calm, and company-ready!

Let’s do this! 👇

🪶 Step 1: In-Depth Dusting and Light Fixtures

First up is in-depth dusting, and I mean everything. Furniture, shelves, decor, electronics, ceiling fans, light fixtures, and all those hard-to-reach spots you've been pretending don't exist. Dust builds up faster than most people realize, especially if you have pets or a lot of foot traffic in your home.

The golden rule here? Always start from the top and work your way down. This prevents dust from falling onto surfaces you've already cleaned, which means no wasted effort and no re-cleaning.

I like to keep a few tools handy: a duster on a pole for high areas, a handheld duster for quick touch-ups, a damp duster for grabbing and holding dust, and microfiber towels for detailed work. For glossy surfaces, use a damp microfiber towel followed by a dry one to buff and prevent streaks.

🧹 Pro Tip: If your duster is loaded with dust, you're not removing anything anymore. You're just spreading it around. Rinse or swap it out as you go. Also, changing your furnace or AC filter every few months and running an air purifier can dramatically cut down on how fast dust comes back.

📺 Step 2: TV Screens and Electronics

Your TV screen and electronics collect dust, fingerprints, and smudges like a magnet. And let's be honest, it's one of the first things guests notice in a living room.

Start by unplugging your TV. Then use a dry microfiber towel or duster to remove the top layer of dust. This step alone is often all you need, and it makes deeper cleaning way easier. Whatever you do, avoid paper towels. Over time, they scratch the screen and leave residue behind.

For tougher spots like grease or heavy smudges, I use a simple two-towel system: one damp microfiber to clean, one dry microfiber to buff and dry. Make sure the damp towel is just slightly damp, never dripping wet. For stubborn spots, mix a tiny amount of distilled water with a few drops of dish soap.

📺 Pro Tip: Always spray your towel, never the screen directly. Water dripping into your TV is a problem you do not want to deal with. Trust me on this one.

🛋️ Step 3: Upholstery and Furniture

Now we hit the couches, chairs, and any fabric surfaces in your living room. These areas are hiding crumbs, dust, oils, and everyday buildup, especially deep in those cracks and crevices. You know exactly what I'm talking about.

Start by vacuuming your furniture thoroughly. Focus on seams, cushions, and tight spaces where debris loves to collect. This step alone can make a huge difference. For a deeper clean, a spot cleaner or extractor is a game changer. Work in sections and use light moisture. The goal is to flush out dirt and extract it at the same time, not push it deeper into the fabric.

After cleaning, focus on drying. Open windows, turn on a fan, or increase airflow to speed things up. Damp upholstery that doesn't dry properly is how odors start.

🚨Caution: Check the Clean Code tag on your piece of furniture to confirm that it can be cleaned with water. Some manufacturers require dry cleaning only!

What is a Clean Code?

What if there is NO Clean Code Tag?

At times Clean Code Tags can be worn or lost over time. In this scenario we recommend a small test clean in an inconspicuous area of the piece of furniture. (Usually the back if it is not visible)

🛋️ Pro Tip: Pay attention to how wet the surface gets. If you leave it overly wet or with cleaning residue, it actually attracts more dirt faster. Less is more when it comes to moisture on fabric.

🧹 Step 4: Baseboards and Floors

Last up: baseboards and floors.

This is always the final step because everything we cleaned throughout this entire process settles down here. Start by hitting the baseboards and trim (just like we covered in previous weeks), then move on to the floors.

Begin with vacuuming or dry cleaning the entire floor. This step is critical. If you skip it and go straight to wet cleaning, all that dust and debris turns into a sticky mess that makes your job ten times harder.

Once the dry debris is removed, wet clean using a neutral pH floor cleaner. This type of cleaner won't leave behind residue that attracts more dirt. Work in sections so you don't miss anything. If you have wood floors or floors with a grain, always clean with the grain to prevent streaking.

Got Carpet? Make sure to check back next week for Week 5 of the Spring Cleaning Spree. We will break down the best way to get your carpet clean.

🧹 Pro Tip: Keep your mop head clean while you work. As you clean, it fills up with dirt, and if you don't rinse it regularly, you're just spreading that dirt back onto your floor. Rinse often and change your water when it gets murky. This one habit alone makes a massive difference in your results.
