Time to Celebrate My Clean Freak Fam! ๐ย
You DID It!
Your home is glowing, officially ready for some relaxation! ๐๏ธโจ Give yourself a high-five, because you, my friend, are about to graduate from Spring Cleaning Spree University with full honors. ๐ But before you toss the cap in the air, we have ONE last week to wrap this thing up the right way, and trust me, this is the week that ties the whole house together.
We tackled the kitchen. We conquered the bathroom. We refreshed the bedroom and reset the living room. Now itโs time for the unsung heroes of the home, those sneaky specialty areas that hide in plain sight and quietly drag down all the work youโve already done. Once these are clean, your whole house steps into a different tier. So grab your favorite cleaner, queue up your cleaning playlist, and letโs finish this thing strong. ๐ช
Letโs Go! ๐
๐งถ Step 1: Carpet and Rugs
What it is: Carpets and rugs are basically giant sponges for dust, dirt, hair, and pet fluff. Even when everything else in your home looks spotless, dirty carpet can make the whole space feel a little off.
How to do it
Start with a thorough vacuum. This is the step most people rush, but it sets the foundation for everything else. Skip it and youโre just turning dry debris into wet mud. Donโt do that to yourself.

Next, pre-treat with your cleaner of choice. A pump sprayer works great here because it gives even coverage and lets the cleaner soak in and break down the gunk. Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes and let chemistry do the heavy lifting.
Then rinse and extract. Fill your machineโs tank with water only and run it through to flush out the dirt and the cleaner. Leftover cleaner gets sticky and attracts more dirt, which is the opposite of what we want. Finish with a dry-only pass to pull out as much moisture as possible.
Crank up the airflow. Fans on, windows open, doors cracked. The faster it dries, the better it looks.
๐ Pro Tip: Always vacuum first, then pre-treat, then rinse, then dry. Skipping a step or taking shortcuts can affect the results and possibly leave soap residue behind.
๐งบ Step 2: Washing Machine, Dryer, and Dryer Vent
What it is: Your laundry appliances clean your clothes, but who cleans them? Spoiler alert: thatโs your job today. And itโs a big one, because this step affects safety, efficiency, and how fresh your laundry actually smells.
How to do it
Start with the washing machine. Use my simple DIY vinegar mix (1 cup white vinegar + 1 cup water + 1 TSP Dawn) to wipe down the detergent drawer, the agitator, and the rim of the drum where the funky buildup loves to hide. Then run a full cycle with a washing machine cleaner or cleaning tablet to scrub the inside out.

Move to the dryer. Pull the lint trap and use a vent brush to scrub out any lint hiding deep in the slot. Vacuum it clean and wipe down the surrounding area.
Now the dryer vent, which is the step almost nobody does. You can use a dryer vent cleaning kit that attaches to a drill to brush out the inside, or use a leaf blower to blast the lint out the exterior vent. If you go the leaf blower route, drape pantyhose over the outside vent to catch the debris.
๐ฅ Pro Tip: A clogged dryer vent is one of the leading causes of house fires. Cleaning it once a year is one of the easiest safety wins you can give your home.
๐ช Step 3: Blinds
What it is: Blinds are dust magnets. They also pick up sticky residue, especially in kitchens and bathrooms. The best part? Once theyโre clean, the whole room looks brighter without you doing anything else.
How to do it
Always start with a dry dust. This knocks off the loose stuff so youโre not smearing it around later. For lightly dirty blinds, use the three-towel system: one towel with a mild cleaning solution, one with water to rinse, and one dry microfiber to buff. Easy and effective.
For sticky or heavy buildup, let your cleaner sit on the slats for a minute or two before wiping. The dwell time does the scrubbing so you donโt have to. Take it slat by slat, gently, so you donโt bend or warp anything.
๐ก Pro Tip: If your blinds are really bad take them down and soak them in the bathtub with warm soapy water. Rinse, dry, and rehang. Like new in under an hour.
Make sure to confirm that the blinds can be cleaned with moisture and/or put in water. Always check with the Manufacturer cleaning instructions!ย
๐ Step 4: Windows, Tracks, and Screens
What it is: This is the most satisfying step of the whole spree. Clean windows let in more light, and clean light makes your entire home feel fresh, open, and brand new.
How to do it
Start with the tracks. Theyโre always the dirtiest part. Use a dry brush to loosen the gunk, vacuum it out, then wipe down with a basic cleaner to finish.
For the glass, keep it simple. A small amount of dish soap mixed with water is all you need. Scrub the glass, then go in with a squeegee, working side to side in smooth strokes. Wipe the squeegee blade between passes for a clean, streak-free finish. Outdoor windows usually need a second pass because they take more abuse.
For the screens, lay them flat or prop them up, scrub with soapy water and a brush, rinse them off, and let them dry in the sun before popping them back in.

โ๏ธ Pro Tip: Never clean windows in direct sunlight. The cleaner dries too fast and leaves streaks. Cloudy days are window-cleaning friendly days.
