So let's get cleaning!

The Spring Cleaning Spree is almost done!

Day 23 Carpet Cleaning

Time 30 - 40 minutes per room (Depends on the size of the rooms in your home)

To begin we like to prep the room by removing smaller items and lifting the drapes off the floor.

See our Drape Hanging Hack in action HERE on Youtube.

Pro Tip: Place smaller items in a room without carpet if possible. (Otherwise you have to keep moving the items multiple times. Also, NEVER place items back on wet carpet. This can permanently damage the carpet and the item!)

Once the movable items are out of the room. Give the area a good dry vacuuming.

Frequently Asked Question: Should I move larger items like beds and dressers? Or TV stands and other larger furniture pieces?

Answer: While it depends on your home; Typically, we leave the larger items like beds, dressers and TV stands in place. Reason being, it can be dangerous to try to move these items by yourself. Also, if you do move and then carpet clean under these items, the carpet has to be dry before you put them back in place. This can be unrealistic in smaller homes and apartments. At times we will carefully slide them out and dry vacuum behind the larger item. The same goes for beds, most times we will use an attachment and dry vacuum underneath.

After dry vacuuming the room, we like to spray our Carpet Cleaning Solution with a pump up sprayer. This allows the soap time to work and loosen up the dirt.

As Pet Owners, we like to use Hoover’s Paws and Claws Shampoo.

For more extended details on Carpet Cleaning check out our video:

For the actual Carpet Cleaning we like to use our Hoover Smart Wash Pet machine with only warm water in the tank.

Pro Tip: If you are moving and cleaning beneath furniture, when you move it back you can place cling wrap underneath the legs. This can prevent wood stain and paint from getting wet and permanently discoloring the carpet.

To help the carpet dry faster we like to use the dry only function on the Hoover Smart Wash machine.

With our grooming rake, we rake the carpet.

Finally, we turn on ceiling fans and small portable fans with rubber feet and/or a clean plastic base ( if available) to speed drying.

Day 24 Cleaning Hard Surface Floors

Time 1 hour (Depends on the size of the rooms being cleaned)

1. Start by vacuuming, dusting or sweeping the entire area before using any cleaning solutions.

2. Use a neutral PH Floor Cleaner. Not only do these types of products clean your floor they also won’t leave any sticky residue behind causing the floor to get sticky faster.

3. Always keep your mophead clean.

If you are using a flat mop, you can switch out the pad with a new one or rinse it frequently.

If you are using a spin mop or traditional mop, you want to rinse it frequently. You also want to make sure the water is changed frequently so you are not using dirty water to clean your floors.

This way you extract the dirt from the surface instead of spreading it around.

See our Flat Mop in action HERE!

Day 25 Clean Your Washing Machine

Time 10 minutes (The rest is letting the wash cycle run)

Start by removing and cleaning the detergent drawer.

(Residual detergent can build up over time)

We like to use our DYI Mix: 1 Cup Vinegar 1 Cup Water 1 Teaspoon of Dish Soap

Next rinse the detergent drawer.

Also, make sure to clean out the inside where the tray slides in.

For the machine itself we like to use powdered cleaning packs. Just pour them into the Washing Machine, then wash on a normal setting with hot water. Set it and forget it!

Once the wash cycle is complete we like to finish by giving the inside a quick detail and wipe down.

Day 26 Clean Your Dryer and Dryer Vent

Time 1 hour

To start, pull out the lint trap.

Using a lint brush clean the inside where the tray slides in.

Then give it a quick vacuum and a wipe down.

For the dryer vent, start by pulling the dryer out. (Be careful not to scratch the floor)

Detach the vent tube and inspect.

To clean the vent tube we like to use a leaf blower.

Before you start, place a pair of old nylons over the outside vent cover. (More on this in a moment!)

Go back inside and gently place the opening of the leaf blower in the tube, then force air through the tube which will push the lint and fuzz towards the outside vent.

As the air blows through the outside vent the old nylon will catch the lint and dust.

To see this Cleaning Hack in action watch on Youtube HERE!

Next, from the outside we like to use our Dryer Vent Cleaning Kit which consists of a brush attached to some flexible rods; Which you then attach to your drill and then gently work it in while it spins.

Once everything is clean we like to reattach the vent and put the dryer back in place and give it a quick test to make sure everything is running correctly.

Day 27 Blind Cleaning (Vinyl or Plastic)

Time (Depends on how many blinds you have)

Start by dusting both sides of the blinds with a Swiffer duster.

Then we like to come through with our 3 Towel System: The first microfiber towel is dipped in the cleaning solution to clean (DYI Mix - 1 Gallon of water, 1 Teaspoon of Dish Soap mixed in a bucket)

The second is a damp clean water only microfiber towel to rinse The third is a dry microfiber towel to dry and buff (We use this same process on our vertical blinds as well)

If you have blinds in the kitchen or bathroom that have an accumulation of grease, hairspray, etc.

For these we like to mix up some warm water and a tablespoon of Dish Soap in the bathtub.

Remove the blinds from their hanging clasps. (Pay close attention to how they unclip so you can put them back in place correctly)

Give them a quick soak in the tub.

Then scrub them with a soft bristle brush.

Afterwards, give them a thorough rinse and dry buff with a dry microfiber towel.

Next, hang them outside to dry.

Finally, once dry; Carefully put them back in place.

Pro Tips:

Here are some quick tips on how to clean different types of blinds:

Dusting/Vacuuming: The first step for pretty much any type of blind is to remove as much dust/dry debris you can. I love using my Swiffer for this, or my Hoover Emerge vacuum because it has great attachments and is cordless (Which makes it easy to move from one window to the next.)

Washing Mini Vinyl Blinds: For vinyl blinds that are removable, for spring cleaning, I love to take them completely down and wash them in my bathtub. MAKE SURE to not put the top mechanism into the water, as this will cause damage. I use warm water with a bit of Dawn dish soap, scrubbing and wiping them down with a microfiber cloth or Scrub Daddy sponge.

Most other blinds (Metal and Wood Venetian, Vertical, Fabric, and Roller blinds) are going to need to be cleaned in place. After you remove all of the dust, I suggest mixing warm water with a drop of Dawn soap and using my three-towel microfiber cloth system. If your blinds are fabric, always consult the manufacturer’s instructions first. They may call for special cleaning solutions, or you can spot clean with the warm water/Dawn Dish soap mix. Just be careful to test a small/inconspicuous spot first.

To dry our blinds, you can always wipe them down with a dry microfiber cloth; or for our vinyl blinds I love to hang them up using my Gator Magnetics clip and dry them outside.

Day 28 Cleaning Window Tracks and Interior Windows

Time (Depends on how many windows you have)

Starting with the Window Tracks we have found that it is best to get as much of the dry dirt and soil out as possible.

We like to use an old toothbrush or a small paint brush to loosen the dirt out of the corners and track grooves.

Next we come through with a vacuum to remove the dirt that we have loosened.

Then we give them a quick clean with our DYI Mix: 1 Cup Water 1 Teaspoon Dish Soap 1 Cup White or Cleaning Vinegar

Finally buff dry with a dry clean microfiber towel.

For the windows we like to use a traditional Squeegee System. (A window wet scrubber and rubber bladed squeegee)

You don’t have to know all the fancy Ninja window squeegee moves!

Simply start at the top of the window and work your way down.

Apply the window cleaner with the window brush evenly across the window. (We use our DYI Mix of warm water with a few drops of Dish Soap)

Then come through with nice even pulls with the squeegee across the window.

Pro Tip: Dry the top of your squeegee with a towel after every pull to prevent streaks.

Day 29 Screens and Exterior Windows

Time (Depends on how many windows you have)

For Windows:

For the exterior windows we like to use a traditional Squeegee System. (A window wet scrubber and rubber bladed squeegee)

Pro Tip: Sometimes you may run across a window that is really dirty and you may have to clean it multiple times.

For windows that we can’t quite reach we like to use an extension pole.

Simply start at the top of the window and work your way down.

Apply the window cleaner with the window brush evenly across the window. (We use our DYI Mix of warm water with a few drops of Dish Soap)

Then come through with nice even pulls with the squeegee across the window.

Pro Tip: If you are using an extension pole use even downward pulls with the squeegee.

For Screens:

Carefully remove the screens. (Pay special note to how you removed them so you can put them back in place when you are done)

Vacuum or give them a quick brush down with a soft bristle brush.

Next use the soft bristle brush to apply cleaner evenly across the screen.

(We use our DYI Mix of warm water in a bucket with a few drops of Dish Soap)

Afterwards, rinse the screens with clean water.

Allow them to air dry and then put them back in place.
